Meet your Instructors!

Vik Mudge (they/he) is a trans non-binary dancer, choreographer and instructor, currently living on Treaty 3 territory, in the city colonized as St. Catharines. With experience and training in various dance styles; performance and acting techniques; and visual arts disciplines, Vik’s creativity stems from the intersection of these interests and their journey towards healing and self-actualization.

After becoming a full-time dance teacher in 2020, Vik was curious about what else was possible for him in dance. 2023 marked the beginning of a focused creative journey for Vik, as they developed and premiered an anthology dance show (“the Body and the Brain”) in collaboration with multi-disciplinary artist, Skye Rogers. In 2024, the two would go on to officially announce their partnership as retrograde:dance in motion, with their inaugural project being “Composing Community”, presented by Ontario Culture Days (October 2024). Vik previously worked on the development of professional skills through mentorship with dance artist Sid Ryan Eilers from 2022-2024, which led to the creation and presentation of his own dance film, “<3”. In 2023, Vik received the Emerging Artist Award from the City of St. Catharines.

Vik dreams of a creative landscape that’s rich in cross-pollination and diverse voices. They continually strive to connect with folks and artists from all over, further enhancing the web of creativity and community that he strives to spin.

Makenna Louks (They/Them) is a musical theatre performer with a passion for storytelling and connecting with others. Makenna has been doing theatre for 2 decades in Niagara, and completed their degree in Musical Theatre Performance from St Lawrence College (2020). Since then, they have been a part of many local community productions, and professional shows in Barrie, Ontario. They won the title of “Broadway’s Biggest Fan” through Broadway.com in 2019, as well as runner up in the Shaw Festival / DSBN monologue competition in 2016. Makenna is just at the beginning of their coaching journey, but values building a positive, collaborative, and fun environment where we encourage each other.

Recent credits include Leaf Coneybear in The 25th annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (HTI), Titania/Hippolyta in A Midsummers Night’s Dream (NewWerx), Jack Kelly in Newsies (YAAN) , Charlotte in Cinderella (PCOS), and Ursula in The Little Mermaid (SLC).
